Bel-Air home where child actress Jane Withers once lived seeks $6 million

A Bel-Air home where actress Jane Withers, known for her pairing with Shirley Temple in the film “Bright Eyes,” once lived has come on the market at $6 million.

Tucked behind hedges on about half an acre, the 1936 classic has a brick walkway that leads through a breezeway and up to the black-painted front door. Large picture windows with Georgian bevels are positioned on both sides of the entry, furthering the home’s traditional vibe.

In addition to a living room with a fireplace, the 6,761 square feet of interiors include a formal dining room, a sun room, an office/den, five bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. A country-style chef’s kitchen opens to a circular breakfast nook and a family room with another fireplace.

The master suite has a wood-paneled closet and a sitting room/office nook. French doors open to a second-story balcony overlooking the grounds.

Outdoors, a brick patio surrounds a swimming pool and spa.

The house last changed hands in 1999 for $1.2 million, records show. Sharona Alperin of Sotheby’s International Realty is the listing agent.

Withers, 90, was a prolific child actress whose credits include “Zoo in Budapest” (1933), “Ginger” (1935) and “The Farmer Takes a Wife” (1935). She wrote the story for and later starred in the 1941 film adaptation of “Small Town Deb.”
